Unpacking "Best Life": What it means & How to Create it

Best Life Therapy Blogs - Grief, Anxiety, Stress & More

The words 'best life' and 'living your best life' have become wildly popular over the years. There've been t-shirts made with best life printed on them, a lot of self-development articles and even a book about a best life book club. People really do want to live a good life. As the CEO of Best Life Therapy, I believe there is nothing wrong with that. In fact, I find myself admiring people who are doing well in life and feel happy for them because they are doing well.

On occasion, I'll hear someone say out of annoyance that some another person "is just living their best life." No judgement here if you've used the phrase. We are human beings and by nature are imperfect. We can be judgmental and jealous at times. Some people do feel irritated or annoyed by others because they're not doing what we think they should be doing. We've all had those thoughts at times. We also can feel negative toward others when our lives are not the way that we want them to be. But is there really something wrong with wanting to live the best life we can?

The term best life really is individualized and means something different to everyone. To me, it's about enjoying life and all it has to offer. Intentionally focusing on things that matter to us, nurturing relationships, pursuing hopes, dreams and passions, embracing personal growth, being willing to take risks, laughing, and trying to live in accordance with our values. Living out loud and telling people we love that we love them. The term living out loud means the practice of being yourself, regardless of others' opinions. To me, it's about really truly being authentic, embracing a positive, growth mindset and being grateful for our blessings rather than dwelling on all the things we really can't change.

Best Life Therapy was founded in 2023 by our CEO, Vicky Alvarez, When forming this mental health practice, she considered her values and what she hopes to help clients achieve. Clients who enter therapy are typically trying to improve, reduce symptoms or leaning to cope with something. They just want their life to be the best it can be. It's not about living a life that is better than others. We know there is no perfect life. The goal is not for people to be "best" in a way that implies they are better than others. Everyone has ups and downs and challenges, but this is not our "practice life."  It's the only life we will have. There is nothing wrong with wanting it to be better. It's okay to want to improve, to want to dig deeper into your values, goals and to strive to overcome any obstacles that might be standing in your way.

Best Life Therapy is an insurance-based medical model practice. We hire clinical therapists skilled in diagnosing and treating clients who suffer from mental health conditions, but we also are very much focused on self-improvement. In some ways, a mental health therapist is similar to a life coach. A life coach isn't typically trained to focus on past problems, and they are not trained to diagnosis mental health conditions so you'll work with someone who can help coach and provide there. We often work with clients on motivation and can cheer you on and assist you in reaching your goals. A therapist makes a great accountability partner since we reflect on our progress toward goals during sessions. We are trained to help you dig deeper into your habits and behaviors so you can gain the skills needed to live your best life. Are we perfect? Absolutely not. We are human beings, real and authentic, who are dedicated to helping other humans be there best. When you're trying so hard in life and just need someone in your corner to support you, to provide honest feedback, support, and offer guidance, we are here to help.

We do not have to focus on living our best life every single day. That would be exhausting! Some days we need to sit in the discomfort, do some exploration around our feelings and our situation. Somedays we need to relax and simply work on staying in the present moment. It can be really helpful to approach our lives in a kind, non-judgmental way. To slow down by pausing and simply reflecting and accepting what can't be changed. Some things are hard to accept, and we are human so let's face it, we need a break from productivity and self-improvement. It is okay to rest, to pause and just be in the present moment. Give yourself the time and space you need to rest.

When you find yourself feeling like you are carrying a heavy load and feel like you could use some support, we are here to help you. New clients can request their initial appointment online on the first page of our website. We look forward to meeting you someday and helping you to live your best life! If there is ever a need, please feel free to reach out.
